NTSE Exam Information

The Government of India founded the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in 1961 with the aim of improving the quality of school education in the country. One of these programmes was designed to recognise and cultivate gifted students. This programme took the form of the National Talent Search Exam (NTSE), which allowed for the identification of gifted students and the granting of scholarships to them.

The NTSE is divided into two levels. Both states and UTs administer the stage 1 test, while NCERT administers the stage 2 exam at the national level only to those students who pass the stage 1 exam. Students who pass the NTSE Stage 1 exam are entitled to take the Stage II exam.

A two-stage screening process is used to identify talent. Although each state/UT is responsible for the first stage of selection, the NCERT is responsible for the second stage of selection at the national level.

If you're printing from a download, make sure to use legal 8.5" x 14" stock.

Application form available online or with State/ UT liaison officer is only valid for the Stage 1 test. Liaison Officers of the State/UT agencies may provide some additional information or answer any questions about the specifics of the state-level investigation.

Before the due date as advertised/circulated by each concerned State/UT, the student's filled-in application must be sent to the State Liaison Officer, properly signed by the school's Principal.

Candidates must pay the application fee set by their respective state or territory.

NTSE Application Fee

The state has the authority to charge any fee for the application form of the Stage-1 exam.

The applicants would not need to pay the entrance fee for the National Level Examination.

NTSE Exam Pattern

NTSE Exam is divided into two stages i.e. stage 1 and stage 2. Stage 1 is a state-level test administered by various states and union territories' authorities. Stage 2 is a national level test administered by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for Stage 1 qualifiers and Indian nationals studying abroad who are excluded from the Stage 1 exam. Both the Stage 1 and Stage 2 exams follow the same pattern.

  • The NTSE Exam is a paper-based test. Candidates must fill out OMR sheets with their responses.

  • There are two papers in the test. The Mental Ability Test (MAT) is the first document, and the Scholastic Ability Test is the second (SAT).

  • For Stage 1 exams, the test's medium will be determined by the State/UT.

  • For Stage 2 exams, in the application form, the applicant must specify the language in which he or she wishes to take the exam. As a result, the applicant will be given a question booklet in that language in the middle. After you've used this option, you won't be able to request a change of the medium. The exam medium can be Asamiya, Bangla, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu etc.

  • There is no negative marking in NTSE 2021.

Tips to Prepare for NTSE Stage 1 and Stage 2 Exam

Students who want to get good marks in the upcoming NTSE exam should know the correct strategy to prepare for the exam. The NTSE exam is conducted into two phases or stages. These are Stage 1 held at the State level. And Stage 2 is held at the National level. Here we have discussed some useful tips to prepare students for the main NTSE exam. These tips are as follows:

  • Comprehend the basics

Students should understand the basic concepts of the chapters instead of rote learning the facts. Practical knowledge of the concepts will help students to keep information in their minds for the long term. At the same time, it is equally important to focus on the exam pattern and the syllabus of both stages, as this will enable candidates to create a proper preparation schedule. Students can check out the syllabus and exam pattern given above.

  • Make notes

Making notes is always a suggested tip to crack any competitive exam. This is because they save time during the revision of the syllabus. NTSE aspirants should make notes to learn important equations, formulas or definitions. Writing concepts will allow students to learn and understand things better. Moreover, these notes are lightweight, and students can carry them wherever they want.

  • Revise concepts daily

Revision is a significant aspect of an exam preparation strategy. Without revision, it's impossible to memorize things. Therefore, it is recommended to revise previously learnt concepts before moving on to the next concept. This will allow candidates to halt on crucial concepts or topics and save them from last moment panic.
